Russell T Davies joined by boyfriend Oliver Cole as Tip Toe wins The Television Award

The former Doctor Who showrunner walked the red carpet with his boyfriend Oliver Cole as his latest TV series Tip Toe – a Channel 4 psychological thriller starring Alan Cumming and David Morrissey – won The Television Award.

Russell had expressed a desire to win before the ceremony.

He said: "Well, it would be a bit odd if my big gay show wasn't nominated on a big gay night! I'm excited just to be here, this is a night of celebration, we're all together, it's a joy.

"But of course I want to win!"
