Conquering Marvel’s casting couch was no easy task, as the studio launched a massive, worldwide talent search to find their next web-slinger.

Tom beat out thousands of hopeful young actors - including a few now-famous peers - in a highly competitive audition process.

To set himself apart during the final, high-stakes screen tests with Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, he relied on his dance training and boldly decided to perform a series of flawless backflips on camera. The risky move immediately proved he had the perfect, comic-book-accurate agility needed for the role.
