7. A Return to Prestige with The Apostle

In 1997, Duvall wrote, directed and starred in The Apostle, a deeply personal project about a flawed preacher seeking redemption. The film earned him another Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. It was proof that even decades into his career, Duvall was still taking creative risks.
