6. Dominating the Western Genre

Throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s, Duvall became synonymous with modern Westerns. In Lonesome Dove (1989), he played former Texas Ranger Augustus McCrae, earning critical acclaim and a Golden Globe Award. His authenticity and gravitas helped revive the genre for a new generation. He continued in the genre, including 2006's Broken Trail.
