George McFly may have been a key part of the original Back to the Future, but in the 1989 sequel, the character was pushed to the sidelines - largely due to actor Crispin Glover’s departure from the franchise.
After the massive success of the first film, Glover asked for $1 million to return for Back to the Future: Part II.
The producers turned down the demand, and when negotiations fell through, Jeffrey Weissman was brought in to take over the role.
That decision sparked a legal battle, with Glover accusing writer Bob Gale and the team of using his likeness without consent.
In 1990, Glover won a $760,000 settlement for violation of his publicity rights.
Speaking out later, Glover said: “They stole something, and it’s illegal to steal something, it’s really that simple. Bob Gale is quite literally a thief, no exaggeration.”
