The Last of Us

In HBO’s ‘The Last of Us’, Pedro Pascal delivers a poignant performance as Joel Miller - a weary survivor tasked with escorting teenager Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across a post-apocalyptic America ravaged by a deadly fungal outbreak.

Haunted by past trauma, Joel’s hardened exterior gradually softens as he forms a deep, paternal bond with Ellie, though sadly meets a grizzly end at the hands of the vengeful Abby (Kaitlyn Dever).

Reflecting on his character’s fate, Pascal admitted to being in “active denial” about Joel’s death in Season 2.

He said: “I realise this more and more as I get older, I find myself slipping into denial that anything is over.

“I know that I'm forever bonded to so many members of the experience and just have to see them under different circumstances, but never will under the circumstances of playing Joel on ‘The Last of Us’.

“And, no, I don't spend a lot of time thinking about it because it makes me sad.”
