In 2019, after Britney announced she was taking a career break, speculation began around her home life, particularly after a fan podcast revealed details of a voicemail message allegedly from a former member of Britney’s team who claimed her career break came after she refused to take medication under the conservatorship of her father as well as alleging Jamie has been keeping her at a treatment facility beyond her will. Further cracks emerged when claims that her conservatorship should have only lasted 12 months were exposed and the #FreeBritney action campaign began to pick up traction. Over 2019 and 2020 there were several small court hearing and legal filings which for the most part resulted in no change whilst Britney continued to live her life mostly out of the spotlight.
