Psoriasis struggle
Cyndi started developing pains in her scalp, which she thought was because of having dyed her hair, while on a tour.
A doctor later diagnosed her with psoriasis.
The condition is a chronic, noncontagious autoimmune disease that causes the skin to become inflamed, scaly and itchy.
She went on to battle inflammation on her arms, legs and stomach, with her having to cover up areas left exposed by her stage costumes with lots of makeup.
Lauper later told the National Psoriasis Foundation in 2015 that it felt like she had full-body psoriasis with pain so bad, she had to spend days in bed.
She said: "I had to work. So I stopped that. This was the heartbreak."
