Vocal cord damage
It took Cyndi almost a decade of performing through the 1970s before she found worldwide fame, but at one point she she may have been forced to change her career plans.
Cyndi was performing a cover of Kiki Dee's 'I've Got the Music in Me' one night in 1974 when, suddenly, she lost her voice.
Luckily, it came back a short time later and continued on her way to being a pop star by performing in cover bands and a Janice Joplin tribute act.
Three years later, however, her voice shattered. Doctors discovered Cyndi had suffered a collapsed vocal cord.
