In 2015, fans were shocked as Zayn Malik announced he was leaving 1D, and the band went on an indefinite hiatus months later.

Reflecting on the split, Liam later told The Guardian newspaper: "It was a little bit dark and twisted towards the end of it. But the last few shows were really beautiful moments because the pressure cooker had been let off. It was almost like counting down to holiday... we were going to wake up that Monday morning with no schedule.”

He went to therapy for two years after the band ended, admitting he "didn't really know anything about" himself.
