David Prowse
David Charles Prowse MBE was the man responsible for bringing to life the intimidating villain Darth Vader to life in the original trilogy, although he did not provide the voice for the masked Sith Lord.
Director George Lucas opted to use American actor James Earl Jones for voiceovers due to Prowse's strong Bristolian accent.
In 2015, he appeared in two documentaries concerning his Darth Vader role, one entitled ‘The Force's Mouth’ which included Prowse voicing Darth Vader's lines with studio effects applied for the first time, and the other entitled ‘I Am Your Father’ covering the fallout between himself and Lucasfilm.
Prowse died at a hospital in London on 28 November 2020, aged 85, after a short illness.
