The name James Bond came from a birdwatching book

Ian Fleming named the protagonist of his books from a tome on his own personal shelf ‘Birds of the West Indies’ by James Bond.

A keen twitcher, he told the New York Times in 1989: “It struck me that this brief, unromantic Anglo-Saxon and yet very masculine name was just what I needed, so a second James Bond was born.”
