The Monkees' Micky Dolenz was nearly Fonzie
The 'Daydream Believer' hitmaker, 78, went head-to-head with his pal Henry Winkler for the leading role.
Ultimately the part went to Winkler, but Micky was glad that he lost out.
Speaking in 2015, he said: “It actually came down to me and Henry.
We’re good friends and still laugh about it. I remember when Henry first walked into the [audition] ... He saw me and said, ‘Oh, Micky Dolenz is here. I’ll never get it!’ But I’m so glad he did because he was a much better Fonz than I would have been. He is The Fonz!”
