Contest leads to fame

Heidi was propelled into the modelling industry when she snagged victory in the competition Model 92 - which a friend had convinced her to enter - and a $300,000 contract with Metropolitan Models New York.

In 2012 she tweeted a picture of herself at the time, writing: "Wow! Check out this picture from 1992. One of my very first photo shoots. This is my original hair colour."
