At the age of 13, Miranda entered and won the 1997 annual Dolly magazine/Impulse model competition, shooting a cover for the magazine just one week before her 14th birthday. There was some controversy surrounding the shoot because Miranda posed in bathing suits, but she later insisted: "Dolly is a magazine for teenage girls, not for old men. And I was fully clothed! Doing a winter shoot! They just made something out of nothing."
