Bradley Whitford is ready to return to The West Wing.

The 66-year-old actor played Deputy Chief of Staff Josh Lyman in all seven seasons of the political drama, which aired from 1999 until 2006, and he believes the time is right to bring back the programme as a “limited series of some kind”.

He told Variety of showrunner Aaron Sorkin: “I’ll work him, I’ll work him."

Co-star Dule Hill, 51, is also open to the idea of returning as presidential aide Charlie Young.

Speaking at the unveiling of Bradley's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame - which was also attended by West Wing stars Martin Sheen, Mary McCormack and Joshua Malina - Dule said: “I always say that’s a question for Aaron Sorkin.

“If he writes it, then I will come. I think if he writes it, then we all will be there.

“Sometimes I wonder though where things are in the world. Things are so outlandish, I don’t know how you dramatise any of that. With him writing, it would be a lovely thing to hopefully steer the collective consciousness of our society back toward humanity and connectivity and understanding.”

Creator Aaron previously admitted he was inspired to write more episodes of The West Wing after attending a 25th anniversary event for the show at the White House in 2024.

He told Variety at the time: “I just got a couple of ideas for episodes just walking around the White House.

“Like, ‘why didn’t we ever do this? Why didn’t we ever do that?’”

And in 2019, Richard Schiff - who portrayed White House Director of Communications Toby Ziegler - admitted he had been speaking with the showrunner about the possibility of rebooting the programme.

However, Richard didn't think he or any of his former castmates, such as Bradley, Joshua and Allison Janney, would be able to return to the show on a permanent basis, though he thought there was an option for them to make cameo appearances.

Speaking on the Popcorn Talk Network's I Could Never Be, Richard said: "Aaron has said he wanted it to happen.

"[He] might go with a new administration, in which case, you know, some of us might show up as consultants... it makes no sense, maybe one or two of us to be in the White House."
