Anna Faris has given up drinking alcohol because she found "there's a correlation between drinking and depression".

The Scary Movie star has admitted she feels a lot better since quitting booze and she now appreciates when she's recognised by fans when she's out and about.

During an appearance on Chelsea Handler's Dear Chelsea podcast, Anna said: "It was only in the last, like, year, I think, that I really started to notice and appreciate if and when people recognize me, they would usually smile."

Chelsea then asked: "Do you think that has to do with not drinking? I know you stopped drinking."

Anna then explained: "Yeah, I do. One of the many gifts. It turns out there’s a correlation between drinking and depression, for me, for sure. I had to take a step back and not self-sabotage."

Anna went on to reveal she started hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to deal with symptoms of perimenopause, adding: "

"It turns out there's a correlation between drinking and depression for me for sure at least. I had to take a step back and not self-sabotage."I finally got on hormones, the hormone patch ... [It has made a] huge difference".

Anna admitted she was struggling with mental health issues while filming her TV series Mom before she walked away from the show in 2020 and she even considered retiring from acting altogether.

She explained: "I was, in hindsight, I think pretty depressed, like, perimenopausal depression without recognizing it. I was just having a distant relationship with this city and my career and wondering if I had enough money to retire."

It comes after the 49-year-old actress - who has son Jack, 14, with ex-husband Chris Pratt - revealed she's suffered mom guilt for years.

The Hollywood star - who was married to Chris between 2009 and 2018 - told E! News: "I already had a healthy dose [of mom guilt]. Like, a blanket of guilt. I’m doing something wrong all the time."

Anna then explained that moms in Los Angeles always face lots of pressure. She said: "I think becoming a mom, especially in Los Angeles, it’s hard to feel like you’re doing everything right. There’s a lot of competition."

Anna recalled struggling with her own identity shortly after giving birth to Jack, saying: "What did it mean to go from actress - comedic actress, spoof movie queen. To the identity of mom. Being worried with what that means.

"I wish that future generations don’t have that same burden of identity. Of perfection, the pressure. We’re all really flawed."
