On Friday (31.07.26), TMZ claimed that the musician’s 28-year run with the group as their DJ and keyboardist had come to an end, citing “a source close to the band and with direct knowledge”.
They added that “it’s currently unclear what led to him getting the boot”, but said Wilson had been “notified late Friday afternoon that he's been permanently kicked out of the band”.
Following the TMZ report, Slipknot guitarist Root took to his instagram Stories to apparently address the rumour.
In his post, set to the tune of Slipknot’s 2008 tune Til We Die, he wrote: “Don’t believe everything you read.
“Stop. Think. Take a breath. Sit with it for awhile. Maybe. Just maybe even wait until there’s more information.”
Wilson joined Slipknot in 1998, shortly before the band released their self-titled debut album.
None of the other remaining members of the group - including Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan and singer Corey Taylor - have responded to the TMZ story.
Slipknot last performed live at the Inkcarceration music and tattoo festival in Ohio in July 2025.
The report comes just weeks after Wilson split from fiancee Kelly Osbourne - with whom he shares three-year-old son Sidney.
And Kelly also set tongues wagging with a post on her Instagram page following the TMZ report, writing: “No one will smear your name more viciously than the person terrified you’ll expose the truth about them.”
However, as Kelly didn’t mention either Wilson or Slipknot by name, it’s unclear whether or not her post was in relation to the claims of his departure from the group.
Wilson popped the question at what ended up being Kelly’s dad Ozzy’s final concert before his death aged 76.
Black Sabbath rocker Ozzy passed away on July 22, 2025, and Kelly has been open about how much she has been struggling after losing her father.
Marking the one-year anniversary of Ozzy’s death in a heartbreaking post on Instagram, Kelly began: “I don’t just mourn the father I lost. I mourn the soul I was before death taught my heart its own name. “There’s a grief that steals more than the person you love. It quietly takes the light from your laughter, the innocence from your hope and the stranger you become is someone you’ll spend a lifetime trying to recognise.”
While some people think “grief is missing someone who is gone”, Kelly insisted that the “deepest sorrow is waking each day longing for the version of yourself who died with them”.
She continued: “Grief is a language no-one truly speaks until life forces it upon them. It cannot be explained, borrowed or imagined.
“You only understand its endless ache when you’ve stood in the unbearable silence, carrying a love that has nowhere left to go.”
