Dove Cameron has opened up about why she chose Descendants director Kenny Ortega to officiate her wedding.

The 30-year-old actress/singer tied the knot with her musician partner Damiano David - the frontman of the Eurovision Song Contest-winning band Maneskin - at the town hall in Montalcino, Tuscany in September.

Following the nuptials, Dove told People that Kenny, who also directed High School Musical, was the perfect choice for multiple reasons, including the fact that her father passed away in 2011.

She explained to Coveteur magazine: “Damiano and I knew we wanted it to be done by someone who meant something to one of us personally. It was his idea to have it be someone from my side, mostly because my father couldn’t be there, and because we were getting married in Italy, [and] some of my guest list couldn’t make it due to the time commitment and busy schedules.

“I’ve been very lucky to have a large number of mentors and father figures alike, who stepped into my life in a nurturing role when I was looking for it.

“Kenny will forever be one of the first people to see me for who I was, to choose me, nurture me, and help me become who I am.”
