A musical based on the songs of Any Winehouse is reportedly being created for London's West End.

The production is believed to be based around the music of the singer - who died in 2011 at the age of 27 - and is being produced by Broadway veteran Catherine Schreiber, who has worked on shows including Cabaret, Rent and the stage version of Disney's High School Musical.

Variety reports casting for the show is already underway, but it's unclear whether the production will be based on Amy's life or if it will feature an original story written around her music.

The publication also reports Amy's father Mitch Winehouse - who is in charge of the late singer’s estate - is involved with the production after previously speaking about his desire to bring his daughter's music to the stage.

In 2017, he told The Sun newspaper: "A musical celebrating her life and music is being talked about for the near future. It is something I’d really like to happen, and I’ve said I’m happy for it to go ahead.

"It would be for the West End. We want to do something that remembers Amy for what she was; there’s so much more to her than just the drugs and the alcohol.

"We want to do something positive about how she developed her music. What we don’t hear is that she was clean of drugs for three years when she died."

The news comes after a number of stars came together for a tribute concert in London to mark the 20th anniversary of Amy's Back To Black album.

Jorja Smith, Mark Ronson, Lianne La Havas and Corinne Bailey Rae were among the artists who took to the stage to celebrate the late singer's work during the show at the Roundhouse venue in north London.

The album was played in full during the Amy Winehouse: Back to Black at 20 show, which was broadcast on BBC Two, while the anniversary of the album's release on Friday (23.10.26) will include a full day of programming across the BBC dedicated to Amy and her music.

BBC Director of Music Lorna Clarke said: "Amy Winehouse was an exceptional talent whose songs continue to be cherished by so many.

"We’re proud to celebrate the enduring appeal of Amy’s work with the broadcast of this special concert, alongside a range of performances that were captured by the BBC throughout her career."
