Sir Paul McCartney admits he has 'dodgy' hearing
Sir Paul McCartney has had some misunderstandings with his wife because of his "dodgy" hearing.
Sir Paul McCartney has "dodgy" hearing.
The 83-year-old Beatles legend admitted he's had some misunderstandings when chatting to wife Nancy Shevell, 66, because he doesn't always catch what she's saying, leading to confusion.
Speaking at an event in London, he told comic Rob Brydon: “My hearing can be dodgy. It’s pretty good but sometimes, you know, what happens is you miss little bits of words so it can get weird.
“I was talking to Nancy one time and it turns out she was talking about food or something but I misheard it and I said, ‘What’s Sid Bernstein got to do with it?’
“Anyway, she wasn’t talking about Sid Bernstein.
“You know, when we were kids, you just look at a lot of old people and, in truth, you think they’re a bit thick. You do really.
“What happens is also, actually, as your hearing goes, you realise now that older people just couldn’t hear the question.
“When I wrote When I’m 64, I was thinking, ‘64? Oh, my God, that’s so old.’ And then I go, oh, I’m 64. Oh, now I’m 74 and now I’m going to be 84.”
Paul does his best to look after his health, and credits his vegetarian diet and Pilates for keeping him in good shape.
He said: “These days, I do a bit of exercise. You know, whereas at school, I hated physical education. Now I go to the gym, do a bit of Pilates. It’s good.”
The musician has just scored his 24th UK number one album with The Boys of Dungeon Lane, and he is "well chuffed" with how positively the record has been received by fans.
He said: “Yeah, we are well chuffed.
“If you do something, you want people to like it, and if people like it enough to send it to number one, you know they like it.”
Paul recently explained he considers himself a “playaholic”, because he never thinks of his music career as work.
Speaking to Zane Lowe in an interview for Apple Music, he said: “People say, ‘Oh you’re a workaholic’ and I say, ‘We don’t work music, we play it, so I’m a playaholic!
“I hate it when making music starts to feel like work.”
Zane then remarked that music producer Brian Eno had made an “almost identical” comment in a recent interview with him.
Paul quipped: “I saw your thing about Brian Eno and he says this, he says this thing about ‘playtime’ and I go ‘that’s… he’s nicked it, he’s heard me say it!’
“Because I’m always saying that! He’s taking all my lines, this guy!”
