Julia Roberts has finally addressed the rumour that 'Pretty Woman' director Garry Marshall would tickle her feet on set so she would laugh for certain scenes.

The 56-year-old actress will forever be synonymous with her role as Hollywood hooker Vivian Ward in the 1990 romantic comedy, which sees her character get hired by multi-millionaire corporate raider Edward Lewis (Richard Gere) to spend a week with him while he is conducting business in LA, only for the pair to fall deeply in love.

During an appearance on 'Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen', Julia took part in a question and answer session and a pair of fans enquired "is it true that sometimes Garry Marshall would tickle your feet off camera during 'Pretty Woman' to get you to laugh during a scene?"

The 'Leave The World Behind' star answered: "You know, that's not true."

Instead, to ellicit the infectious laughs that Vivian intoxicated Edward with, Julia revealed that late filmmaker Marshall - who was responsible for other box office hits like 'Runaway Bride' and 'The Princess Diaries' as well as '70s TV series 'Happy Days' - would use jokes and wordplay to get her giggling.

She added: "But Garry would do things like this - He would say, 'Action! Be funny!' And then I'm just supposed to be laughing or something ... I guess you have to know all these people's names to appreciate this, but he called me the 'schlumpy girl' and he would say, 'If the schlumpy girl married Raul Julia, she'd be Julia Julia!'

"And then our [director of photography] was a man called Chuck Minsky and [Garry] goes, 'If Chuck married Nastassja Kinski, she'd be Nastassja Kinski Minsky!'"
