Cher has hit back at criticism over the 40-year age-gap with her boyfriend Alexander Edwards - insisting they are having "a blast".

The pop superstar, 79, has been dating the 39-year-old music executive for three years, but she's adamant age has never been an issue for the couple. During an interview on CBS Mornings, host Gayle King asked Cher about criticism over the age-gap and the singer replied: "Whatever.

"They’re not living my life. Nobody knows what goes on between us, but we just have a blast.”

Cher then insisted Alexander doesn't have a problem with the age difference, saying: "No [he doesn't], thank God. He just says: 'You know, you get older, but your spirit is younger'."

She added of her man: "We laugh all the time, you know? I just love him. I think he’s beautiful. He’s really talented. He’s one of the most talented persons I’ve ever met.”

Cher also revealed she gets on well with Alexander's six-year-old son Slash from a previous relationship, saying: "I used to say: 'God, give me a toddler and a man," before adding she got "exactly" what she asked for.

She said of Slash: "He’s so funny. He’s so smart. He’s a delight."
