Elijah Wood knows "a great deal" about The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.

The 44-year-old actor starred in The Lord of the Rings trilogy as Frodo Baggins from 2001's The Fellowship of the Ring to 2003's The Return of the King, and Wood has now revealed he has read the script for the upcoming spin-off and thinks The Hunt for Gollum is "really good".

During an appearance at DesertCon, Wood said of the film: "Well, I can't say anything about that. I know a great deal about it. I've read it. It's really good."

The Toxic Avenger actor added it was "so exciting" that the original creative team behind The Lord of the Rings – including series director Sir Peter Jackson and writers Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens – have reunited for The Hunt for Gollum.

He continued: "There are some wonderful people involved. The thing that is so exciting is that it is really getting the creative band back together.

"The brain trust behind Lord of the Rings, Fran, Peter, Philippa, they are heavily involved. And then, the same production designers. It is going to be shot in New Zealand.

"So, it is going to carry with it such continuity with so many people who are a part of Lord of the Rings, and I am really excited about that. It feels like getting that old machine up and running again with all of the right people."

The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum takes place during the events of The Fellowship of the Ring, and follows Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) as he embarks on a quest to find Gollum/Smeagol (Andy Serkis).
