Jack O'Connell heard "gasps" from several theatregoers who walked out after they saw him strip naked on stage.

The 'Unbroken' star, 34, appeared nude during a production of Tennessee Williams' classic play 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof' at the Young Vic theatre in London in 2017 - but he's revealed the saucy scene was too much for some audience members as they didn't return to their seats after the interval.

In an interview with the Guardian, he explained: "There’s a nude scene at the start of the play and another at the end. The play starts in the shower. It would be very odd to be in the shower wearing clothing. So I just assumed: I’ll be naked. You just crack on.

"But I guess, for the audience, being met with that image of me being naked … I remember a few gasps in the matinees from the coach trippers. They weren’t there after the interval."

Jack's career has been going from strength-to-strength since he landed his first big TV role in teen drama 'Skins' and has even previously been tipped as a possible contender to take over from Daniel Craig as the next James Bond.

However, the actor is adamant he's probably not high on producers' wish-list as they seek a new face to play 007.

He told Total Film: ‘I mean, listen, if something like that comes my way, sure. I’d just treat it the same way: I’d read it, see who’s directing. Do they want me? Cool. Let’s chat. Is the script belting? Then cool. OK, let’s definitely chat.

"It’s not something I’m going to turn my nose up at. I’m sure there’s a long, long list. I’m sure that list is highly competitive, and I’m sure that there are some phenomenal actors being considered for it.

"If I’m somewhere along that list – brilliant. That, in itself, is an achievement. But, again, a lot of that stuff – as you find with quite a lot in this industry – is out of my hands. You just roll with the punches."

The search for a new Bond looks set to continue after the franchise was taken over by Amazon MGM Studios following the exit of longtime Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson and a recent reported suggests 007 will be getting a massive shake-up - taking the character back several decades.

The rumour was shared by actor Daniel Mays who revealed he'd heard some details about what Amazon are planning for Bond. During an appearance on the 'We’re Not Getting Any Younger' podcast, he said: "Bond is a big deal right, that going to Amazon ... I heard a rumour they’re going to cast someone very young and go sort of back to the origins.

"They’re going to sort of '60s, you're going to have all the retro cars and that sort of stuff - and start again. I think that would be kind of cool."
