Selma Blair has been released on $20,000 bail after pleading not guilty to two charges of second-degree assault.

The Cruel Intentions actress, 54, was arrested and hospitalised after allegedly punching a flight attendant and biting another during a Delta Air Lines flight to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport on Sunday (11.10.26). She was also accused of getting physical with a Port Authority police officer and a hospital nurse. Selma appeared in court in New York City on Monday (13.10.26) and pleaded not guilty to the two charges and she was released on $20,000 bail.

The actress' defence attorney Shawn Barnes told the court Selma had missed the medication she takes which is related to her battle with multiple sclerosis and she had also hit her head in a fall.

Barnes also claimed the actress had been working "extensive hours and exhaustive hours" before the flight, telling the court: "These factors coupled with the altitude, resulted in a state of severe confusion and disorientation."

According to New York Post column PageSix, Barnes added: "This was not an intentional assault."

The incident on the plane was confirmed by a spokesperson for Selma, who said in a statement to People: "Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct.

"Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition."

Meanwhile, a representative for Delta added: "Delta has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behaviour as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first."

The airline also confirmed that law enforcement met the plane upon its arrival in New York, with emergency responders asking for more medical personnel to meet the two attendants and a passenger, presumed to be Selma, at the gate.

In audio obtained by People, a responder could be heard on dispatch audio saying: “From the info I’ve got, sounds like there were two - yeah, one flight attendant and one passenger that sustained some minor injuries, a bloody nose as well as some bite marks as well.

"So I don’t think when need an ambulance or anything like that, but we [could get] some medical personnel at the gate to look at their injuries."

The responder then added: "And then one additional add on, it sounds like the disruptive passenger also bashed her head on the bulkhead or something like that."
