Wladimir Klitschko seeks guardianship of daughter Kaya
Wladimir Klitschko has filed for temporary guardianship of his and Hayden Panettiere's daughter Kaya in order to ensure he is eligible to file a probate petition.
Wladimir Klitschko has filed for temporary guardianship of his and Hayden Panettiere's daughter Kaya.
The former boxer's legal team have made an "urgent and essential" appeal to the courts in order to ensure he is eligible to file a probate petition for Hayden's estate on behalf of the 11 year old following the Heroes actress' death last month at the age of 36.
Court documents filed on 24 September and obtained by E! News stated: “Without an immediate appointment for these purposes, there is a high probability that property belonging to Hayden's Estate may be lost, damaged or dissipated before a duly appointed personal representative can be in place to protect it.
“This directly and adversely affects Kaya, as she is the sole heir entitled to the entirety of Hayden's probate estate.”
The documents stressed that if Wladimir isn't immediately appointed Kaya's guardian, no one is able to "marshal, protect and account for the assets” of Hayden's estate.
The 50-year-old star's filing also expressed concern over investigators' treatment of Hayden's personal belongings during the probe into her death, as well as concern over "an individual" who appeared to have access to the Nashville actress' home before her death.
The filing stated: “Locks to Hayden's Home were changed by the security service following Hayden's death, and storage units containing designer clothing and accessories worn to public appearances have been relocated as a precaution.
“Notwithstanding the foregoing, it is expected that the individual will continue to try and misappropriate property belonging to Hayden's Estate.”
A hearing regarding Wladimir's status as Kaya's guardian has been set for 7 December.
He and Hayden dated on and off between 2009 and 2018, and he received full custody of Kaya back in 2018.
In a tribute to the actress following her death, Wladimir branded Hayden “an important part” of his and his daughter’s life.
He said in a statement: “To our daughter Kaya, I will always speak of her mother with respect and make sure she remembers the person she was.
"I extend my deepest condolences to Hayden’s parents, her friends, and her fans, who are also grieving today. Young and talented people like Hayden should not leave this world so soon.”
