Brittany Snow celebrations 'golden anniversary' in recovery from eating disorder
Brittany Snow has opened up about her recovery from her eating disorder, and told people in a similar position that they're "not alone".
Brittany Snow has marked 17 years of recovery from her eating disorder.
The 40-year-old actress has reflected on the moment she "chose to bet on" herself and try to get better after struggling with anorexia and exercise bulimia in the past.
On Thursday (17.09.26), she wrote on Instagram: "Today, September 17th, marks 17 years of recovery for me. I’ve heard they call that a golden anniversary. And somehow, that feels fitting.
"My movie, Parachute, is about this very day, the day I made the decision to stop hurting myself. The day I chose to bet on myself, even when I couldn’t yet imagine what a life on the other side might look like."
Brittany admitted there was a time 17 years ago when she wasn't sure she'd "make it".
She continued: "I couldn’t see a future, and I certainly couldn’t imagine one where I would learn to be kind to myself.
"If someone had told me then that I would not only live, but one day have a beautiful, full life, free from the cycle of self-destruction and my eating disorder… I truly don’t think I would have believed them."
The Hunting Wives actress thanked her friends and family for supporting her through such challenging times, as well as her own "tiny voice inside" urging herself not to "give up".
She said: "There was so much beauty ahead that I couldn’t see yet. So much love.
"And one of the greatest gifts of making it through is being able to turn around and share the hope I couldn’t see possible."
In a message to people going through the same struggles, she told everyone they're "not alone".
She added: "So many people have stood where you are standing. There is life beyond the place you are in today, even if you can’t picture it yet.
"One day, the story you fought so hard to keep living may become the very story someone else needs to hear.
"I’m 17 years on the other side today. I’m so grateful I stayed."
She also tagged accounts for a number of mental health charities, including National Alliance For Eating Disorders, September Letters, Bring Change To Mind (BC2M), Make Sure Your Friends Are Okay, and The Mental Health Coalition.
Brittany has been candid about her experiences, having undergone treatments in the past for her eating disorders, depression and self-harm.
Back in November 2025, she told Self: "I had so much disdain for my body and I couldn’t see myself as a functional, beautiful being. I only saw the things that were wrong with me."
During treatment, she was presented with the question of whether or not she could live without her illness.
She added: "I think rewiring my brain where I could count on myself and I could trust myself, I could be in a space and feel like I wasn’t going to do something harmful to myself, was the best thing that ever could have happened to my recovery."
