Aaron Rodgers slams Shailene Woodley in bombshell interview
Aaron Rodgers has claimed Shailene Woodley asked to sleep with another man before they got married and disputed her take that he "left her".
Aaron Rodgers has claimed Shailene Woodley asked to sleep with another man before they got married.
The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback has blasted his former partner - who he began dating in 2020 and split from two years later - and suggested he doesn't understand why she ever accepted his marriage proposal, which occurred months into their relationship.
Speaking on his teammate Cam Heyward's podcast Not Just Football, Aaron said: “I date Shailene, I propose, and she says yes. She maybe felt like she was forced to make a decision. She could have said no. But not a couple of days after that, she tells me before we get married, like, ‘I got to go f*** this guy.’”
The 42-year-old sportsman insisted the Divergent actress' take that he "left her" simply wasn't true.
He added: “‘Cause her story is, I ruined her life and gave her crazy depression because I left her, but in actuality, she told me that and took off the ring by March. I proposed in December, took off the ring by March, and we had a couple of times when we tried to get reunited and nothing ever happened, and there wasn’t even a relationship in ’22 to break off. She literally told me, 'I don’t want to be with you'.”
Aaron, who also previously dated Danica Patrick, felt the need to address his past relationships and change the narrative about him.
He said: "There’s just a lot of narratives out there that are just not true, and they portray things a certain way because they can get away with it. No one knows what they’re doing...
“The height of their fame was when they were with me.”
In 2024, Aaron revealed he was dating a woman named Brittani and they married the following year, but he's now revealed they met several years before that and he regrets they didn't settle down sooner.
He said: "In 2017, I met my wife, and at the time, she was leaving the States and going back to Europe. And my biggest regret is not begging her to stay or proposing right there, because that sent me right there into a tailspin of what can I be accused of as a partner in a relationship."
Shailene, 34, previously discussed how she lost herself amid a "really awful, traumatic thing" that happened in her life in "early 2022", but didn't specify that she was discussing the end of her relationship with Aaron.
She told Outside magazine in 2022: “I felt like I lost my soul, my self, my happiness, my joy.
“I really understood depression and anxiety and, like, complete soul detachment.”
She noted she had stayed in a "toxic situation" because of her empathy for "someone else".
She added: “Empathy kind of kept me in this loop of feeling everything for everyone."
Shailene did mention Aaron directly once, when she admitted she got emotional talking about their relationship.
She said: “I haven’t shared much about my relationship with Aaron because it always makes me cry. It was not right. But it was beautiful.”
