Anya Taylor-Joy thinks she's "protected" herself too much from the idea of fame.

The 30-year-old actress spoke to her friend Miley Cyrus for a new interview, and was asked how she protects "parts of yourself that are just yours".

She told Miley, 33, in a chat for V magazine: "If anything, I think I’ve protected myself too much. It took me a minute to not feel hunted, to not want to hide.

"I’ve learned to take things less seriously by choosing which opinions actually matter to me and which are based on very little information at all."

Miley also quizzed Anya how she feels about the expectations around the upcoming third Dune movie, and if she's "still secretly trying to impress" someone in her life.

She replied: "Oh wow. That cuts deep. I think I’m still trying to impress myself?

"I have absurdly high standards that can be exhausting at times. Not so much for other people but personally.

"I care so much about the creation that I want to make sure I’ve given it my best. Growing up has meant I’ve learned that sometimes perfection is in letting go."

Meanwhile, Anya opened up about she keeps a journal "absolutely" as a way of making sense of her own emotions and thoughts.

She explained: "It started first with wanting to remember my dreams. I’ve always had an active dream life – sometimes it feels more real than this one!

"Writing is such a sanctuary. Even if you don’t see the value in what you’re writing in the moment, with time you’ll notice little clues.

"Oscar Wilde wrote, 'I never travel without my diary. One should always have something sensational to read on the train.' "

Meanwhile, Anya - who married Malcolm McRae in 2022 - admitted tying the knot has given her the freedom to "take more risks".

She gushed to the September issue of ELLE UK magazine: "I don’t want to sound smug, but I love him so much. To have a best friend who goes through life with you – it has given me a sense of security that I didn’t really ever dream about.

"It wasn’t something that was on my list. Now that I have it, I just feel emboldened to take more risks because I know I’ve got something really nutritive and solid and healthy and so f****** fun. I laugh, like, 90 percent of the time."
