Jamie Lee Curtis has grown closer to the children of Rob and Michele Reiner following the couple's deaths.

The Halloween star was left devastated after the director and his wife were killed at their home in Los Angeles last December, but the tragedy has strengthened her bond with Jake and Romy Reiner, whose brother Nick has been accused of killing their parents, because they are like "family" to her.

She told Extra: "Of course, I mean, we are family.

"Something like this brings people so much closer. Like Jake and I were sitting shoulder-to-shoulder doing an interview…. and just feeling him there is emotional, and then of course him talking about his parents and their fantastic relationship.”

In September, the 67-year-old actress honoured Rob and Michele with a tribute at the Emmy Awards, and she admitted the moment was "tougher" than she "anticipated".

Reflecting on the lengthy bond she and husband Christopher Guest shared with the When Harry Met Sally filmmaker and his wife, she told The Hollywood Reporter: "I’m obviously a close friend of theirs; we got married at Rob’s house on Dec. 18, 1984. Rob was the best man.

"My late sister Kelly was my maid of honour. So we are close. Rob is our daughter Annie’s godfather. When Michele married Rob, she and Rob became my daughter’s godparents.

"We have a closeness, of course. What I’m trying to say is that I felt a responsibility to represent everyone - strangers, fans, colleagues, friends, close friends and family - in that moment at the Emmys. I was fine and happy to do it.

"It was very challenging ... I was happy to do it, but it was a little tougher than I anticipated ... It’s been a little strange because it’s a very private grief, and yet I’m a public-facing person. I’m trying to walk that line a little bit."
