Perez Hilton focused on 'mental health' recovery after treatment for physical injuries
Perez Hilton's brother-in-law has given an update on his recovery in hospital after self-harming in a disturbing TikTok livestream earlier this month.
Perez Hilton is now focusing on his "mental health" in hospital after being treated for broken bones.
The troubled blogger - whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr - is recovering after under the care of doctors after self-harming in a disturbing TikTok livestream from his Miami home on August 4.
His brother-in-law Tom, who is married to the 48-year-old star's youngest sister Barbara Lavandeira, told The Perez Hilton Podcast with Chris Booker that up until 48 hours before he recorded Monday's (24.08.26) show, Perez was received treatment for physical injuries.
These included "the cutting" and "a couple of falls that happened during this process", as he was left with broken bones and some issues relating to his previously struggle with sepsis.
Tom continued: “So, we are now just transitioning into the mental side of things.
"Although, of course, while he’s in the hospital, while he’s being treated for his physical ailments, psychiatrists come in and check in and see how he’s doing and make sure he’s not looking to harm himself.
“The actual healing, or digging into what caused this mental break as I’ve called it, hasn’t been discovered. I don’t know if it will ever be.”
He added that Perez is now "lucid", but they haven't discussed details of August 4 often, in case it "triggers any anxiety".
He said: “I don’t know how much he does or doesn’t recall. We will get into that more once he’s in that setting, where we’re focusing on his mental health.”
Perez's family revealed earlier last week that he is still receiving inpatient care three weeks after being hospitalised.
In a post on his website, a message from Hilton's family read: "To everyone who has reached out, checked in, and kept Perez and our family in your thoughts, THANK YOU!
"At this time, Perez remains hospitalized and is receiving the medical care he needs. His treatment is continuing in an inpatient setting under the care of a dedicated team of medical and mental health professionals."
The message went on to explain the blogger's loved ones are going to be keeping his website active while he gets help.
Last week, it was revealed in a court in Miami that Perez has been granted supervised visits with his children.
His mom Teresita Lavandeira had filed for temporary legal custody of Mario, 13, Mia, 11, and Mayte, eight, so she can look after the youngsters while their dad, 48, receives the care he needs.
The order - obtained by the Daily Mail - explained: "Any visitation with Respondent shall be supervised either with an agreed upon family member or a therapist until further order of the Court or agreement of the parties, so long as Respondent has obtained psychiatric clearance."
The publication reports Judge Laura Cruz said the court could issue further orders such as a "transition plan" to return the children to Perez's custody once he recovers.
Documents previously filed in Miami, Florida, and obtained by the New York Post's PageSix.com show Perez "voluntarily consented" to the custody request from his mother amid his recovery.
The move allowed Teresita to consent to necessary medical and dental care for the kids, gain access to medical and educational records, make decisions about their education, and "do all other things necessary for the care of the children".
