Carmen Electra wants to date a "dad type".

The 54-year-old actress - who was previously married to Dennis Rodman and Dave Navarro - is still attracted to "edgy" guys but she's open to the idea of embarking on a relationship with someone who has a family of their own.

She told Fox News Digital: "I still like a guy that's a little bit edgy, but I wouldn't mind being with a dad type.

"I did actually date a dad. He had a daughter. I fell in love with the daughter. And I kind of thought that was going to be the relationship. Didn't work out, but I could be with someone who has a kid or not."

The Baywatch star's main priority in her next partner is they are a "good person" and she isn't concerned about their finances because she can look after herself.

She said: "They don't have to be a dad. They could be a little bit younger. I don't know. I don't really know who that guy is yet.

"I work really hard. I make money. I'm not looking for the man with money. That's not my goal. If he wants to buy me a few gifts, that's nice. But I can take care of myself.

"He just has to be a good person. That's very important.

"And we have to like the same things.

"It's also cool when opposites attract. Because they say if two people are too similar, one person is unnecessary. So you don't want it to be too similar, but you do want to like certain things. You want to have some things in common. But you also want to learn from each other."

Carmen recently insisted she likes it when guys "make the first move".

Offering advice to readers, she told Playboy magazine: "I’m old fashioned, so I prefer if the man makes the first move, although I have been known to do a little walk, sway the hips a little bit, you know, bat my eyelashes a little like a butterfly, and keep on walking. If they are really interested in you, they’ll talk to you or slip you their number."

The Scary Movie actress suggested men who want to date "middle-aged women" should get in contact "appropriately" and warned last-minute invitations are always a bad idea, particularly late at night.

She said: "We do appreciate texting or calling appropriately.

"What you really need to do is make sure you don’t call her and say, 'Hey, come meet me at a bar right now,' when it’s midnight. That’s a huge no-no. A woman likes to get ready, and she needs to make plans.

"Maybe call her early in the day and say, 'Hey, let’s go out tonight. I want to take you out. I’ll be there to pick you up.'

"Something like that sounds a lot better than, 'Hey, meet me at the bar', you know? No, it’s not happening."
