Post Malone tells fans he hasn’t forgotten ‘ole Stoney’ as rap comeback gathers pace
The chart-topping musician has teased unreleased music that appears to revisit his hip-hop roots following the success of his country debut and ahead of a major FIFA World Cup performance.
Post Malone has signalled a return to the hip-hop sound that launched his career.
Teasing new music on social media while telling fans he has not forgotten the era of “Stoney”, the musician, 31, shared a short video of himself performing an unreleased track, fuelling speculation his next project will revisit the style which made him one of the defining artists of the late 2010s after a successful move into country music.
Post, whose real name is Austin Post, posted the clip on social media showing himself singing along to the new song while smoking a cigarette and drinking a beer.
The teaser arrives less than a year after F-1 Trillion debuted at No 1 on the Billboard 200, marking his first full-length country album and spawning collaborations with leading names from the genre.
Alongside his musical comeback, Post has also been announced as the headline performer for the closing ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will conclude the expanded tournament staged across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
His career has evolved from the melodic hip-hop of Stoney, beerbongs and bentleys and the breakthrough hit White Iverson to chart-topping pop, rock and country releases, making him one of the industry's most commercially successful crossover artists.
Post captioned his new video: “That one mofo that don’t know when to leave… .”
Earlier this year, while announcing a delay to his Big A** Stadium Tour with Jelly Roll, Post also reassured fans that his next record would revisit the sound of his early career.
He said: “Truth is, I promised y’all beautiful people new music, and I don’t have the time to finish it before tour starts.
“We ain’t ready for tour just yet, so I’m making the decision to push the tour back about 3 weeks to get this music done.”
He later added: “That THAT being said, we been making some bada** s*** for this double album… and I can’t wait to perform for y’all again.
“And to a lot of little stinkers that think I’ve forgotten about ole Stoney, I haven’t... .
“I love you, and can’t wait to see you crazy motherf****** soon.”
Post’s forthcoming record, titled The Eternal Buzz, has been described by the singer as a double album and is expected to follow the commercial success of F-1 Trillion.
The country record debuted at No 1 on the Billboard 200 and marked another stylistic reinvention for the artist, who has repeatedly moved between genres throughout his career.
Post first rose to international prominence with the release of White Iverson before establishing himself with albums including Stoney, beerbongs and bentleys, Hollywood's Bleeding and Twelve Carat Toothache.
His catalogue also includes global hits such as Congratulations, Rockstar, Circles, Sunflower, Chemical and I Had Some Help, cementing his reputation as one of streaming's biggest artists.
Away from the studio, Post is continuing his Big A** Stadium Tour alongside Jelly Roll before heading to Australia and New Zealand later this year with Don Toliver as the special guest.
His schedule also includes a prominent role at the closing ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
FIFA has announced Post will headline the event, joining previously announced performers including Tom Cruise, Jennifer Hudson, Laura Pausini, Nicole Scherzinger, Robbie Williams and IShowSpeed.
The ceremony will also feature a halftime show with performances from Shakira, Madonna, BTS, Justin Bieber and Coldplay.
The 11-minute production has been curated by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.
