Maya Hawke has bought her first home just a short walk from her mother Uma Thurman’s house.

Describing the move as the chance to “put some roots down” after a whirlwind year that included her surprise wedding to musician Christian Lee Hutson, Maya, 27, said she is now living in the same upstate New York community where she grew up while filming a new television adaptation of The God of the Woods.

The actress and singer, whose parents are Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke recently married Christian during a private Valentine’s Day ceremony in New York City.

Discussing her new move with People, Maya said: “I just got myself a home a couple of blocks away from my mom.

“I’m so excited to finally be able to put some roots down.”

Maya’s home purchase coincided with her filming Netflix’s adaptation of Liz Moore’s bestselling novel The God of the Woods, which is being shot across the Hudson River Valley and the Adirondack Mountains.

Maya land a role on the show as she continues to build a career beyond her breakout role as Robin Buckley in Netflix’s global hit Stranger Things, with the series having wrapped production on its fifth and final season in late 2025 ahead of its highly anticipated release.

Maya’s latest project is based on Liz Moore’s bestselling 2024 novel and sees her play Judy Luptack, the first female investigator in a male-dominated Bureau of Criminal Investigation who is tasked with investigating the disappearance of a 13-year-old girl from a summer camp.

Kerry Condon stars as Alice Van Laar, the missing child’s mother.

According to Netflix, the series is “a multigenerational drama series set in the Adirondacks” that explores the Van Laar family’s history, class divisions and the disappearance of Barbara Van Laar, whose case uncovers long-buried secrets.

Maya said about the project: “It shoots in the town that I grew up in.”

The actress continued: “I am so excited to be at home doing a job I love and care about, so I’m not in that panic spiral of being home and being like, ‘When will I ever work again?’

“Usually it’s like, you’re home, and you’re panicked about whether you’ll ever work again, or you’re not home, and you’re working and you miss home. I feel like I have the best summer of my life going on, where I get to experience neither thing at the same time.”

Showrunners Liz Moore and Liz Hannah said in a statement released by Netflix: “We’re thrilled to be filming in the state that inspired the story and the region where it’s actually set.

“The Adirondacks have a fascinating history, and we feel inspired every time we’re there by the park’s beauty and complexity. We hope to do it justice on the screen.”

Produced by Sony Pictures Television, the series also counts Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty among its executive producers.

Maya’s wedding earlier this year was attended by both of her parents despite their separation, with the actor wearing a custom Prada wedding dress and Christian choosing a custom Prada tuxedo.

Several of Maya’s Stranger Things co-stars, including Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton and Joe Keery were also present after the long-running Netflix series completed filming.

Alongside her acting career, Maya has continued to establish herself as a musician, recently releasing the Audible Original The Summer Oath.

Her screen work also includes Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Asteroid City, Inside Out 2 and Maestro, though Stranger Things remains the project most closely associated with her rise to international fame.
