Scarlett Johansson credits beauty regime for keeping her 'grounded'
The 41-year-old actress opened up to Yahoo!’s Laugh Lines about how she maintains her flawless appearance, and said she believes in beauty when it’s “supportive, not corrective”.
Scarlett Johansson has credited her regular skincare regime for helping her stay grounded and feel “more like myself”.
The 41-year-old actress opened up to Yahoo!’s Laugh Lines about how she maintains her flawless appearance, and said she believes in beauty when it’s “supportive, not corrective”.
Scarlett, who founded her skincare line The Outset in 2022, explained: “My three-step routine is non-negotiable.
“It takes under three minutes, but it makes me feel put together, even on the most chaotic days.
“A consistent skincare routine actually helps a lot. It’s predictable, it’s calming, and it’s something I can control.
“My routine is one of the few moments in the day where I’m not multitasking,” she says. “It’s not about transformation—it’s about maintenance, in the best sense of the word. Like checking in with yourself.”
She added that her “version of a beauty escape” is “very unglamorous”, admitting it’s usually just “five quiet minutes alone”.
The actress said: “It’s less about the product and more about giving yourself permission to pause.”
She can even do this in the car, adding grounding herself is all about having “just a moment to breathe without input”.
Scarlett, who regularly appears on lists of the ‘World’s Most Beautiful’ women, also said that there’s “less urgency around trying to look a certain way” these days.
She explained: “Early on, beauty felt very external—part of the job, part of the image. Over time, it’s become much more personal.
“Now it’s less about how something looks and more about how it feels. I’ve let go of a lot. I’m much more interested in how my skin feels - healthy, comfortable, balanced.
“When you’re not constantly trying to ‘fix’ things, you actually feel more like yourself.”
One of the products Scarlett credits for allowing herself to “reset” is The Outset’s Lip Oasis balm.
She sighed: “Honestly, even just reapplying it and taking a breath can feel like a reset.
“There’s something about that small, tactile moment that pulls you out of whatever chaos you’re in.”
Scarlett concluded by saying it was her first introduction to beauty and skincare - through her on-screen roles - that inspired her to launch her simple skincare range.
She said: “I spent years in a makeup chair having every kind of product layered onto my skin, and my skin really pushed back.
“I dealt with breakouts, sensitivity, all of it. It made me realise that more isn’t better, and ‘fixing’ your skin can actually make things worse.”
