Scarlett Johansson has reflected on changing beauty standards in Hollywood.
Scarlett Johansson has bemoaned the "unachievable" beauty standards she was held to during her younger years.
The 41-year-old actress - who first found fame as a child - believes Hollywood's beauty standards have changed markedly over the last 20 years.
Appearing on Good Housekeeping’s Home in Five series, Scarlett reflected: "Actors are able to express their personal style on the red carpet much more than they ever did before."
The Jurassic World Rebirth star recalled feeling under intense pressure to look a certain way during her younger years.
She said: "There was such a standard on how movies stars were supposed to look. It was unachievable and it didn’t allow for personal style in the same way [it does now]."
The Oscar-nominated star observed that actors and actresses now feel much more comfortable wearing casual attire in public.
Scarlett - who is one of the highest-grossing film stars of all time - said: "Now at the airport or on the train, you see people wearing pimple patches and eye masks and whatever they want to feel confident."
Scarlett previously admitted to feeling typecast as a sex symbol during her younger years.
The actress is one of the biggest names in Hollywood - but Scarlett felt she was only valued for her "desirability" during her early days in the movie business.
Speaking to The Sunday Times newspaper about her early days in the movie business, Scarlett explained: "When I was younger, a lot of the roles I was offered, or I went for, had their ambitions or character arcs revolving around their own desirability, or the male gaze, or a male-centred story."
Scarlett has overcome the issue by rejecting "unfulfilling" roles and patiently waiting for the right opportunities to come her way.
The actress - who is married to comedy star Colin Jost - said: "I just waited.
"I had to become comfortable with the idea that it could take some time. Which is hard when you're a young actor, but at that time I didn't have any children."
