Mel B feared something was seriously "wrong" with her as she battled "scary" symptoms of the menopause.

The Spice Girls star, 50, has opened up about the impact hormonal changes had on her life revealing she suffered "terrible" hot sweats and was plagued by anxiety - insisting she considered going back into therapy and having a "serious" talk with her doctor.

She told the Daily Mail newspaper: "I was having terrible hot sweats and I remember before I turned 50, I would be sitting in a meeting going: 'Is anybody else hot?' I didn't know what was going on.

"I thought to myself ... I think something is a bit wrong with me. I know I moved from LA to Leeds [in the UK] and the weather is cold here but what the f*** is going on?' ...

"I wondered why I was feeling more anxious and why I was doubting myself ... I wondered if I needed to do even more therapy ..."

Mel is now a brand ambassador for Revive Collagen - which is designed to help ease menopause symptoms - and she's glad conversations about the issues are now being had more openly.

She added: "It just so happened that I was about to go to my GP and have a serious talk with him and ask what was going on when I started taking Revive ... I don't need HRT [hormone replacement therapy] now, not that I ever had it. But I was about to have it and investigate that ...

"A billion women go through menopause worldwide every single year. It can happen at 35, it can happen at 50 and it can happen for 10 years, so what you are going through can be quite scary.

"There is so much misinformation but it's so good that we are talking about it."

It comes after Mel previously revealed she's finally found peace after retreating to a farm in the countryside.

The Spice Girls star - real name Melanie Brown - owns a £2 million country estate in the Yorkshire Dales where she lives with her husband Rory McPhee and her kids and the singer revealed she often goes on forest hikes to calm her mind and enjoys looking after her chickens, ducks and goats.

She told Hello! magazine: "It's beautiful and peaceful here and the animals make me feel very calm. If I'm not feeling too good in myself or my head's spinning with thoughts and work, I will do a quick hike in my forest and come back like a new person. When I drive up here, I can actually feel my shoulders relax.

"My dad grew up with goats and chickens in Nevis, so it reminds me of his roots and my lovely grandmother. They're proper country goats. They don't mind the weather, their pen’s always open and they are free to run around.

"I always do the chickens first, then the goats, and if they need mucking out my husband helps me with that. After I’ve fed the ducks, I walk the rottweilers in the forest and let them off the lead.

"My kids often say that they're going to help me at night when they've had their dinner … and then they don’t."

Mel - who is mother to Phoenix, 27, Angel, 19, and Madison, 14, from previous relationships - also has a Yorkshire Terrier named Cookie and a cat called Sorn and she explained she feels "safe" thanks to her pair of rottweilers.

She added: "[The dogs are] important to me because they are trained to attack and protect me, so I can feel comfortable."
