Nicole Kidman had her team conduct extensive "research" in preparation for Lioness.

The Oscar-winning actress stars in the Taylor Sheridan-created spy thriller, but Nicole admits that she needed help to navigate the show's "technical jargon".

Speaking at the Icons of Taylor Sheridan's Universe event in New York City, Nicole explained: "It's been incredibly exciting, because it's like suddenly doing a thesis in the CIA."

Nicole, 58, had her own team of researchers go through every term in her scripts to make sure she fully understands what she is saying.

She said: "We have to understand every single thing we're saying. It has to come trippingly off your tongue. You have to understand everything, and it has to be [like it's] something that you are using as everyday language all the time, which obviously we're not."

The actress and her co-stars Michael Kelly and Morgan Freeman will also run lines together and break down the meaning of the dialogue.

She said: "'What does that mean? Decipher it. Definition, definition, definition,' so that we constantly understand what we're talking about. And it is dense."

Nicole also teased what fans can expect from the upcoming season of the show.

She said: "Taylor is so ... particularly with Lioness, and particularly season three, which is going to come out ... is so relevant.

"I think it's like, wow, it's so topical, and you're constantly treading in these minefields, and you've got to keep up, like, really keep up, because it's really hard to follow."

Meanwhile, Nicole recently claimed that actors and actresses are "always on the precipice" of stardom.

During a conversation with Ariana Grande for Interview magazine, Nicole shared: "There are so many people that want to do it and are insanely talented, and just don’t get the lucky break.

"But I think what’s fantastic about our industry is that, actually, there is that chance. We’re not in business or something, where you have to keep working your way up. Sometimes that lucky break can just fall from the heavens and your whole life changes."
