Britney Spears has checked into rehab.
The 44-year-old pop star's representatives confirmed on Sunday (12.04.26) that the singer has voluntarily entered a treatment facility five weeks after she was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol (DUI) in Ventura, California in early March.
A source told PEOPLE that Britney made the decision to enter rehab as a way of "moving forward", saying: "People close to Britney encouraged her to seek treatment.
"She understands the seriousness of her situation and felt this was the best step moving forward. She's now seeking treatment."
Another insider told New York Post column PageSix that Britney is determined to put her mental health first, adding: "Everyone just wants Britney to be healthy and in a good place and the fact that this was her decision just proves how dedicated she is to her own recovery and getting herself back on solid ground."
The source went on to add Britney doesn't have a set time frame for her treatment, saying: "She doesn’t know yet [how long she will be there].
"This isn’t for a set 30 or 60 day program. It will take as long as she needs. She’s not setting a limit on herself.
"She just wants to feel better and get herself into a healthier space."
After Britney's arrest, her team released a statement insisting the singer would be taking "the right steps" and embracing a "long-overdue change" as well as spending time with her two sons, Preston, 20, and Jayden, 19, with her ex-husband Kevin Federline.
The statement explained: "Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in a long-overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.
"Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well-being."
News of Britney's rehab stint comes after reports suggested the Toxic star has been sober since her arrest and has been making positive changes.
It was claimed she was “driving erratically” before an hour‑long police pursuit that ended with the singer being taken into custody on suspicion of DUI.
A 911 caller reportedly described her as “all over the road,” prompting officers to track her vehicle until she eventually stopped.
Police sources said Britney appeared “disoriented” when approached, and she was later booked before being released.
Britney is set to appear in court on May 4.
