New Kids on the Block singer Joey McIntyre has revealed he is celebrating two years of sobriety.
New Kids on the Block singer Joey McIntyre has celebrated two years of sobriety.
The 53-year-old singer - who has three children with wife Barrett Williams - admitted his life isn't "perfect" not but it is "better" than it was before as he urged people considering giving up alcohol to give it a try because quitting booze doesn't mean there is no more "fun" anymore.
He said in a video posted on Instagram on Wednesday (11.03.26): "Hey everybody. Two years sober today. Two years sober.
"When I say sober, I'd say it's been two years since I had a Manhattan on the rocks, or a vodka soda.
"Can you believe it? Two years. It's possible, folks.
"If you're thinking, 'Hmm, I could never do that. It won't be fun. I'll never laugh again,' it's not true. Is my life perfect? No! Is it better? Yes!
"Happy two years. All right. Love you."
The Step By Step singer clarified in the caption of his post: "#Sober #goodtimes (been clean and sober for two years - save a hit on a vape pen about a year and a half ago. I honor both dates cuz they are both important to me).(sic)"
Backstreet Boys singer AJ McLean - who has spoken openly about his own sobriety issues - offered his support to Joey.
He commented on the post: "Welcome to the club, my friend. It’s the best club to be a part of and I’m extremely proud of you. Keep it up buddy one day at a time."
Moldy Peaches singer Kimya Dawson also offered her own reassurance.
She commented: "27 years off the sauce for me and the first two were two of the longest hardest years of my life. Getting through two is huge. Congrats. Keep it up!"
Meanwhile, New Kids On the Block have a Las Vegas residency at Park MGM's Dolby Live and Joey is thrilled with how it has been received by fans.
He told The Boston Globe newspaper: “We’ve had fans say to us, ‘This is the best tour ever,’ and that’s what you’re always looking for.
“And then it’s a great way to play to an audience that maybe hasn’t seen you [before], or hasn’t seen you in a while.
“This has become like a lifelong family at this point, between us guys and our fans, and we’ve been able to make it exciting, still, after all these years. We can come in ... and still surprise our fans somehow, that’s always the goal. So we’ve been very lucky to have those opportunities.”
