Tumblr is 'deeply sorry' to Halsey for 19th anniversary snub
Social media blogging site Tumblr has apologised to Halsey after they weren't in included in the platform's 19th anniversary celebrations.
Tumblr has apologised to Halsey for omitting them from the site's 19th anniversary celebrations.
The social media platform marked the milestone on Friday (27.02.26) with a highlight reel featuring the likes of One Direction, Lana Del Rey and The Weeknd, but Halsey - who has been a staple for over a decade after connecting with fans there - wasn't included.
The pop star - who uses she/they pronouns - teasingly replied on X: "I keep your lights on for years and this is the thanks I get."
Fans joked that Tumblr is trying to "erase" them, with others said "the disrespect is insane".
In a lighthearted response, Tumblr said in a statement: "Halsey, we are deeply sorry you were not included in our 19th birthday edit.
"you are and have forever been a pillar of our platform and yes for lack of better words ‘keeping our lights on for years.’
"we would never, as you once put it, intentionally swerve you.
“At just 19, we’re still learning and growing. we promise this will never happen again. we hope you can find it in your heart to forgive us. with love, tumblr. (sic)"
In the past, Halsey has used Tumblr to share musings and poetry, with some of those going onto inspire songs like Lonely Is The Muse, from their album The Great Impersonator.
Sharing the complete origin poem, which later became a blog post and then song, they explained: "This is how I originally wrote it … I posted a fragment of this on Tumblr a while back, but here’s the initial piece in its entirety."
After their original Se7enteenblack account was deactivated back in August 2015 - a few weeks before debut album Badlands dropped - Halsey launched a new account a few years ago, and admitted it would be "tough" to decide how to use it.
They wrote: "Gonna be a tough thing deciding which writing to post here and which to save for the records.
“Lately I’ve been writing constantly from morning to night. Not for any reason. Just a compulsion.”
On their Tiredandlonelymuse blog, Halsey later opened up on why they have returned to the platform.
Writing in June 2024, they pondered: “I came back to Tumblr when it all went down, because I think something special happens here.
“This is the quiet space in between screaming observation and lethargic loneliness. It’s shared solitude.
"The platform gave me everything once upon a time, so many years ago. It felt right to return in my weakest moment.”
