Liza Minnelli wants to date an 18 year old.

The 79-year-old actress was previously married to Peter Allen, Jack Haley Jr. Mark Gero and David Gest, and while none of her unions worked out, the Cabaret star - who also counts the likes of Martin Scorsese, Desi Arnaz Jr., and Peter Sellers - hasn't given up on love and dreams of dating various men who are all different from one another.

In an extract from her book Kids, Wait Until You Hear This! obtained by People magazine, she wrote: “Ideally, I’d like to date an older elegant man who dresses beautifully and is filthy rich.

"Then I’d like to date a 40-year-old guy who is passionate about something. I don’t care what.

"Then I’d like to date an 18 year old, who I see twice a week and whose name I don’t know.”

Liza married the late David Gest in March 2002, but they separated in July the following year and divorced in 2007, and the Arthur actress claimed she felt like a "prisoner" during their marriage.

She wrote: "I clearly wasn’t sober when I married this clown.

“He didn’t just control everything I ate, from morning to night. he controlled the people I saw and spoke to on the phone.

“He screened my calls. In truth, I was his prisoner."

Liza also looked back on her "passionate" and "intense" affair with Scorsese, who had directed her in 1977's New York New York.

She wrote: "Truth be told, our love affair had more layers than a lasagna. We were both Italian. Passionate. Intense. Committed to our craft. We both had volcanic tempers. He was a diabolically handsome man who shared my love for film. I was a director’s daughter.”

But when she ran into him decades later, at the 2014 Academy Awards, her attempt to reach out to the director were snubbed.

She noted: “He turned away from me."

However, Liza had a more positive encounter when she got back in touch with Desi to apologise for breaking off their engagement decades earlier.

She revealed: "But Desi stopped me. ‘Liza,’ he said, ‘All I remember is the love. Please let everything else go. I have.’ Talk about a gentleman.”
