Nikki Glaser is determined to strike the "perfect note" at the Golden Globes.

The 41-year-old comedian is returning to host the glitzy awards ceremony, but Nikki admits that it's a challenge to strike the right balance with her jokes.

She told Variety: "You don’t want to touch on anything that’s going to bring the whole room down or remind them of something really tragic. But at the same time, you don’t want to completely ignore it. There are certain nods we’re doing without going too heavy- handed. I’m trying to find the perfect note to hit.

"In terms of politics, I feel like we’re all just so tired at this point, and it’s almost like all we have to do now is kind of laugh about it, and really looking to this award show as an escape from it."

Nikki is keen to leave a long-term "mark" on the event.

The stand-up star explained: "I want to be one of the hosts that people go, 'She hosted that!'

"The hosts that really made their mark on the show, like Ricky [Gervais] and Tina [Fey] and Amy [Poehler] did it three or four times each. I want to be in the conversation with them! You can do anything once, but doing it twice is a feat. I’ll probably want to do it a third time. And also it’s honestly really fun.

"There’s something really satisfying about when you get it right, when you put in so much work."

Glenn Weiss, the executive producer of the show, previously acknowledged that Nikki would be a "great" long-term host of the Golden Globes.

He told Variety: "We absolutely had a great experience with her, and think that she would be great at this in the long term."

Glenn feels Nikki "proved herself to be a really good host".

He said: "She really prepared. She did her homework.

"She’s been practising material at a clubs, sometimes four or five shows a night for a couple of weeks straight, working on this pretty hard since November. And when you have a host that’s that prepared and that dedicated and also not tone deaf, listening to what’s going on in our business and even in the room on the fly, she’s really good at this. And she proved herself to be a really good host."
