Chris Martin gave a surprise performance at a couple's wedding at the weekend - after being contacted by the groom's mother.

The Coldplay frontman stunned the guests at a reception at Blithfield Lakeside Barns in Rugeley, Staffordshire, on Saturday night (13.12.25) when he walked out to perform the band's hit All My Love for the newlyweds' first dance.

Chris, who played piano and sang, had been contacted by the groom's mother, who asked if he could send a congratulatory video to the couple but he kindly got in touch and offered to perform because he was free that night.

Blithfield Lakeside Barns co-owner Alex Brown told the Stoke Sentinel: "Chris got back and said he could go one better.

"He said I'm free that night so I'll come and play the first dance. He didn't want any introduction so we said it was the first dance and he walked in and performed.

"The bride and groom did know he was coming. It was kept as a surprise for the guests. I don't think they realised it was him until the end!

"Chris was great and it was amazing for the bride and groom. It was all about them but it's great exposure for us. Chris is a really good guy."

The 48-year-old singer, who wore a beanie hat, hugged the couple once the song had finished.

The newlyweds, who have been identified only as Mr. and Mrs. Hotchkiss, will be "forever grateful" to the Yellow hitmaker.

They told ITV News Central in a statement: "My Mother-in-law contacted Chris's team in hopes for a congratulatory message for our special day, but instead to be given this opportunity is staggering.

"We ensured to keep it secret as a surprise for our guests.

"We would like to thank Chris and his team for making our already special day, even more special. We know our 15 month old daughter was captivated by his song. We are forever grateful."

The Paradise singer recently revealed Coldplay will stop making music after 12 albums in order to keep their legacy intact.

Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, he said: "We are only going to do 12 proper albums and that’s real. Yeah. I promise.

"Because less is more. And for some of our critics, even less would be even more! It’s really important that we have that limit.

"There’s only seven Harry Potters. There’s only 12 and a half Beatles albums. There’s about the same for Bob Marley, so all of our heroes.

"Also having that limit means the quality control is so high right now, and for a song to make it, it’s almost impossible, which is great. And so where we could be coasting, we’re trying to improve."
