Travis Kelce is a fierce competitor, says teammate
Chris Jones has come out in support of Travis Kelce, his Kansas City Chiefs teammate.
Travis Kelce is a "fierce competitor", according to teammate Chris Jones.
The 31-year-old star has leapt to the defence of Travis - who is engaged to pop star Taylor Swift - after he was criticized for confronting Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid during their latest game.
Chris told reporters: "I think we're all fierce competitors. We all want to win.
"Sometimes, in the heat of the battle, sometimes emotions show. Sometimes we have confrontations, whether it's with coaches, players ... but I think it's more out of competitive spirit."
Chris doesn't believe Travis, 35, needs to change his approach to the game, in light of recent criticism of his behavior.
He said: "We all want to succeed. It's the nature of this, it's been like that since I've been here and I don't think its going to change."
Earlier this week, the Kansas City head coach insisted that he was "okay" with Travis' displays of anger.
He told reporters: "The question came up yesterday about Travis and the intensity and all that.
"‘Is he frustrated or not frustrated?’ Well, he’s seen how the offense works. So when things aren’t going the right way, he’s very aware of that.
"He’s a pretty smart guy and he’s been doing it longer than anybody else on this team has been doing it. He wants to make sure that he gets that point across to the guys, and so he does that.
"I’m OK with that part."
Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes - Travis' teammate at the Kansas City Chiefs - previously claimed that Taylor has helped to make the NFL franchise a "worldwide team".
The sports star told Time magazine: "[The Chiefs] went from a nationwide team that was kind of global to a full global worldwide team. That came from Taylor’s fanbase."
Patrick also admitted to being wowed by Taylor's work ethic.
The 30-year-old star said: "I’ve met a lot of famous people now in my life. Taylor’s probably the most down-to-earth person that’s been on that stage for that long.
"She’s never not working. Even when she’s taking her downtime, she’s working on something. Shooting a music video or singing a song or writing a song. You can see it by how she talks."
