Sarah Michelle Gellar insists she's 'too old' to play Buffy again
Sarah Michelle Gellar has insisted she highly doubts she would be cast as Buffy the Vampire Slayer in a revival.
Sarah Michelle Gellar thinks she’s too old to play Buffy the Vampire Slayer again.
The 47-year-old actress shot to fame portraying Buffy Summers in the hit TV series – which ran from 1997 until 2003 – and despite rumours of a reboot, she thinks producers will want to cast a younger star in the lead role.
Asked how she’d approach playing the character now, she told Britain’s HELLO! Magazine: “It’s been 20 years so I’d need a lot of plastic surgery!
“I don’t know if I would approach playing her any differently. Buffy is such a beautiful character – that never changes.
“But I think they’ll get someone younger if she does come back.
“If people think I can still save the world and kick butt, I’m OK with that.”
Sarah – who has Charlotte, 15, and Rocky, 12, with husband Freddie Prinze Jr. feels the show ended on the right note and doesn’t have any unfinished business with the series.
Speaking of where she thinks her alter ego is now, she said: “I like to think she’s living a good life, a peaceful life, without having to do all the slayings she used to.
“But I’m happy with how we ended things.
“I love playing her and I feel proud of what she stood for – what she still stands for.”
And the blonde beauty enjoys watching old episodes with her kids.
She said: “I’ve watched a few with my kids. They love it.
“I’m proud to watch it with them.
“’Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ changed my life.
“A lot of times when you star ton a show at a young age you get stuck, but I didn’t have that.”
The ‘Dexter: Original Sin’ actress feels fortunate to have had so many “great” roles over the years.
Asked her favourite character she’s played, she said: “Buffy would have to be up there and in ‘Cruel Intentions’, Kathryn was a great character.
“But it’s hard to choose, because I feel lucky to have played a lot of great characters – some really formidable women.”
