Tara Fitzgerald would love Game of Thrones return
Tara Fitzgerald is sad her ‘Game of Thrones’ character was killed off as it has reduced the chance she could make a comeback if the show ever returned.
Tara Fitzgerald would love to return to ‘Game of Thrones’.
The 57-year-old actress feels “blessed” to have portrayed Selyse Baratheon in the HBO fantasy drama – which ran for eight series until 2019 – but is disappointed that the suicide of her alter ego in season five would likely mean no possibility of a comeback if the show ever returned.
Asked if she’d like to return to the ‘Game of Thrones’ world, she exclusively told BANG Showbiz: “Oh god, of course yeah! That was something that I was really blessed to have been a part of that show.
“I love that show. I really love the show. So, of course. I’m sure any of the other actors would say ‘yes’.
“But Selyse met a very sticky end. So, I’m not so sure whether she could be resurrected.”
Despite the vast nature of ‘Game of Thrones’, Tara didn’t find working on it too much different to the small indie projects she also enjoys because there was so much attention detail.
She said: “When it’s working well, I don’t think there is that much difference.
“For instance, on ‘Game of Thrones’, the care and attention that was put into everything on that … and the hands on nature of it.
“I think, for instance, they’re comparable - very low budget, very high budget - at their best.
“But then of course big set pieces, CGI or these huge differences. I suppose, as an actor, [there’s] less of an ability to see the big picture [with big budget projects] than you would on something smaller.
“When it’s run as well as ‘Game of Thrones’ was run, then the flavour is very much a sort of common enterprise.”
The ’Portraits of Dangerous Women’ actress always looks to “learn” something from her work.
She said: “I am still learning. There still is something to be gathered from any work experience. And it does essentially come down to people. Always.
“You can have all the best things going for a project with all the elements apparently in place and it doesn’t quite come together.”
