Megan Thee Stallion thought she was "going to be a new woman" after Tory Lanez was imprisoned.

The 32-year-old rapper was sentenced to ten years in prison after being convicted of shooting Megan, and the 'Mamushi' hitmaker assumed it would be a turning point in her life - but that didn't prove to be the case.

Megan, 29, says in her Prime Video documentary, 'Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Words': "I really thought that once he got sentenced and once he went off to jail, I was going be a new woman and I thought I was going to be great and I could just go be the Megan Thee Stallion I always wanted to be.

"No. I still, every day, have to deal with people mad at me because I said what happened to me."

Despite this, Megan feels she's slowly returning to her old self and she's "hopeful" for the future.

The award-winning star also insisted that she no longer concerns herself with public criticism.

She explained: "I do feel like I’m getting in a place where I really don’t care. I only care about my damn self. For the first time since my mama was alive, I’m taking care of myself, because I want to feel good.

"Everything I do is for me. And I don’t feel like I’m operating at one-million percent now, but I definitely feel like I’m operating better. I do feel hopeful for what’s next for me."

Megan previously claimed that people treated her trauma "like a running joke".

The rap star told ELLE: "I could have let the adversity break me, but I persevered, even as people treated my trauma like a running joke.

"First, there were conspiracy theories that I was never shot. Then came the false narratives that my former best friend shot me. Even some of my peers in the music industry piled on with memes, jokes, and sneak disses, and completely ignored the fact that I could have lost my life."
