Ross Mathews "never thought" that he would get married.

The 45-year-old TV host tied the knot with his long-term partner Dr Wellinthon García in 2022 but admitted that in his youth, the idea of walking down the aisle never occurred to him because gay marriage was not legalised in the US until 2015.

He told People: "When I was a little kid growing up, I never even thought about being married because, hello, get a history book! Very recent history, we couldn't. So it wasn't like this fantasy that I had as a kid. I feel like straight kids always thought about, ‘What dress will I wear at my wedding?' I never even thought about it.”

The TV star - who started his career on 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno' but now acts as a correspondent on 'The Drew Barrymore Show' - also noted that he is "shocked" how much he has come to love being married as he admitted that the new phase in life has made him believe that he can conquer anything in a way that he didn't feel before.

He said: "I have been so shocked at how much I love being married. I love my husband because he's the best human that I know in terms of being funny and silly and brilliant and strong. What I didn't anticipate is that marriage would make me feel like I can try anything because if I fail, I'm not going to fall alone. "There will be someone to pick me up. And I just feel invincible in that way now."

Ross admitted at the time of his nupitals that he had no idea what was going to happen in the future, but was feeling confident about it.

He said: "I don't know what happens next, but I know we're going to be happy. This is the beginning of something amazing."
